Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the questions we most commonly receive.
Feel free to reach out and contact us with any additional questions you have.
Do I need to pay anything to go on a boat trip?
All of our programs are FREE.
Do I need to have boating experience to be a program participant or volunteer?
We welcome everyone on our boat trips and encourage first-time boaters to experience the joys of boating.
Is there an age limit to go on the boats?
All ages are welcome.
Are boats wheelchair accessible?
We have boats that are wheelchair accessible.
What should I bring on my boat trip?
We recommend that you bring sunblock, sunglasses, a hat and flat shoes. We supply water and snacks onboard.
If I went on a Freedom Waters Foundation program before, can I go again?
We are glad you had a good time and invite you to participate again. Please contact our office at 239-263-2377.
Since all Freedom Waters Foundation programs are free, how do you pay your expenses?
We greatly appreciate donations from individuals, members of our Treasured Friends monthly giving society, corporate sponsorships, grants and proceeds from our Kind Mariners Ball fundraiser. We also receive generous in-kind donations from marine partners, restaurants and other supporters.
If I am a boat owner and want to donate my time and vessel, what type of license and insurance do I need to have?
Florida does not have a "boating license" requirement. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has terrific information about boating safety. And while boat insurance typically covers boat passengers, we strongly encourage you to contact your insurance agent before you decide to volunteer your vessel for use in Freedom Waters Foundation programs. We are happy to discuss this further if you call our office at 239-263-2377.
